Room by Room Rentals
Quinovic Merivale has a dedicated room-by-room rental division to service this rapidly expanding market segment.
In Christchurch there’s a growing demand for room-by-room rentals as a result of the influx of single trades people coming to the city after the earthquakes.
Before 2010 this type of accommodation was mostly sought after by international and local students; people on work visas; contract workers. Now demand is being driven by students and rebuild workers coming into the city.
Many landlords are converting to room-by-room rental to meet the growing demand.
This kind of accommodation is often referred to as a ‘Boarding House’. It typically sees landlords rent one bedroom to an individual tenant while common areas and facilities are shared with others.
Room-by-room rentals are available in many Christchurch suburbs – all furnished, with power and public area cleaners provided. Some include internet, cable TV and a landline phone.
Rental terms are variable and prices range widely depending on the suburb, facilities and quality of accommodation.
Rental properties that are intended to be occupied by six or more tenants requires the owner, or his agent to have a thorough understanding of the rules and regulations pertaining to this type of accommodation as set out in the Residential Tenancies Act.
